WAXMAN ENDORSED BY HALF OF ELECTED CITY OFFICIALS

October 22, 2008

PORTLAND — On Wednesday, October 22, Portland City Council Candidate Dory Waxman announced that she has been endorsed by four members of the Portland City Council and five members of the Portland School Committee. Each body has nine members.

“Dory is just the person we need to bring people together and turn Portland around,” said At Large City Councilors and former Mayors Nick Mavodones, Jr. and Jill Duson. “Her experience, commitment and deep roots in the community will make her an effective voice for our citizens,” they continued.

Other Councilors endorsing Waxman included District 3 City Councilor Dan Skolnik and District 5 City Councilor and former Mayor Jim Cohen. School Committee members endorsing Waxman included: Jamie Caron (At Large); Sarah Thompson (At Large); Robert O’Brien (District 2); Lori Gramlich (District 4); and John Coyne (District 5).

“I’m overwhelmed to have this kind of support against a sitting mayor,” said Waxman. Waxman and her opponent Mayor Ed Suslovic are both Democrats, but all of the Democrats on the City Council and five out of seven Democrats on the School Committee are supporting Waxman.

Waxman is running against Mayor Ed Suslovic for an At Large seat, and intends to represent Portland with a strong emphasis on shoring up the city's economic viability while building consensus both on the Council and in the community.
